The Young Doctors Program is a selective summer enrichment program on the campus of Hampton University for rising 7th, and 8th grade students. The program provides an exciting and unique "Hands On" experience in both the lab and classroom, and exposes students to a wide range of science disciplines. Students will participate in many group projects in which they design, build, test and analyze solutions to various problems in fields including engineering, physics, chemistry and biology. Some of these projects will be relatively complex "real world" problems that provide excellent opportunities for the students to apply what they have learned in the classroom. Students will also hone their presentation skills by making several group internet-research presentations to their peers. In addition to the hands on work, speakers from various science disciplines will expose the students to a wide range of professions and careers they may not have seen before. Speakers from previous years include medical and dental doctors, aerospace and mechanical engineers, veterinarians, physical therapists, atmospheric scientists and physicists. These speakers teach the students their craft, while inspiring and reassuring the students that there is a solid minority presence across all fields of science. | ||||
