Please answer each question carefully and with a great deal of consideration. Area of Science of Most Interest to You: Why? Area of Science of Least Interest to You: Why? What do you consider to be the easiest aspects of science? The most difficult/challenging? Contemplated major in College: Essay Questions The final part of the application consists of three short essays. These essays are the most important part of the application process, so please answer the questions very carefully and thoroughly. Please prepare a paragraph or two in response to each essay topic and attach your answers on separate sheets. Neatness counts – please type if possible or print neatly if necessary, and make sure to edit for spelling and grammar. Essay 1 – Please share your possible future career plans with us, and the role that some form of science (mathematics, chemistry, engineering, medicine, etc) plays in these plans. Please discuss what appeals to you about this possible career path and help us understand why you have chosen it. If more than one career appeals to you, don’t worry about narrowing the choices down – share all of them with us. Essay 2 – Please tell us why you would like to be a part of the Young Doctors summer enrichment program. This program will teach you about numerous topics, including engineering, biology, chemistry, physics and math and will help your problem solving skills, improve your group work abilities, and sharpen your presentation skills. Do you feel that you will benefit from a program like this? Why, and how? How do you currently feel about the topics just mentioned? Finally, since the teachers in the Young Doctors will have more freedom and flexibility than your regular school teachers, let us know some projects or experiments that you would like to conduct during the program. Essay 3 – Please name a scientist or two that you admire, and in a couple sentences, tell us what the person does that makes them an inspiration to you. The person can be famous or someone you know personally. - We request student gender for tracking and communication purposes only. We will not base any acceptance decisions on student gender.
